Are Korean universities doing a good job in providing the competent workers that the businesses are looking for? Is the college education practical and pragmatic enough to meet the needs of the businesses? The answer is no for both these questions according to a survey requested by the Ministry of Education. The Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) conducted the survey for a two month period from October to November on 438 personnel managers and 442 college graduates in these companies. The results were announced Tuesday, clearly showing how Korea's college education was far from being satisfactory.
Most personnel managers pointed out that the colleges didn't teach the students of practicalities but only theories. They complained that retraining of incoming employees is needed to make them useful to their companies. They believed that college education should focus more on teaching digitalization of information,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], communication skills,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], internationalization, and problem solving capabilities,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not to mention strengthened major courses.
